Daughters of the King

Choosing any gown you want.  Having friends fuss over you to help get the buttons or zipper just right.  Sitting down to have someone straighten, fluff, curl and style your hair.  Having generous hands apply beautiful shades of color to your face.  Cameras and flashes all around you the whole time making you feel like a star for the day.  What girl doesn't want that??

Many of the girls who come to stay at Eagle Village won't have a prom.  They may not get senior pictures.  They may never have felt pampered.  Or beautiful.

Daughters of the King is a special event we've put together for the young ladies on campus to build their self esteem and let them have a lot of fun being a silly teenage girl for the day.  This year, the wife, daughter and friend of an employee all came and did hair and make-up as did two volunteers from Sally Beauty Supply in Big Rapids.  A photographer from Traverse City and 6 of his students came and took tons of casual and posed shots of each girl.  We had several volunteers and staff come just to help with the fussing, pinning, choosing of dresses & shoes and words of encouragement.

We would love to organize something similar for the young men on campus.  We've already begun collecting jackets, dress shirts and ties.

Many thanks to our volunteers who help make days like this so special.

Blanket Angels and Other Handcrafted Quilt Makers

When each child arrives at the Village and attend their first Chapel service, they are given a bible of their own and they may choose a quilt to keep.  Several groups and individuals work diligently to keep quilts on our Chapel shelves.  These cherished gifts demonstrate to them that someone cares.

Pawfect Companions is a Pawfect Fit!

Cynthia Glazier and her team of volunteer canines and their masters visit Eagle Village every week to share time with the kids and let them learn how to handle the dogs.  Walking, heeling, and rolling over on their backs for attention make for a very fun and comforting experience.
