“I was looking at a prison sentence. That’s where I would have ended up if I hadn’t come here. Eagle Village is in the business of changing lives. I know that for a fact because I’m one of those whose life was changed.”JOHN
“I’m so proud of my daughter. She’s made such a turnaround. Sure, we get mad sometimes. But now we know how to work things out. I have my daughter back. Body, mind and spirit.”Jeanne
“Every time I come here I learn more and leave with new ideas and strategies…it makes my heart feel lighter. We have a new life with new tools and another chance at having a healthy, normal family.”Mother
“In all, Eagle Village changed my life. I joined the military and served as both a military police officer and a combat medic. I served 11 years. I am married now, with a wonderful wife and three wonderful kids. I live and work in Washington, D.C., and I like to think that I’m making a difference. Thank you, to all of you at Eagle Village, for taking a boy and turning him into the man I am today.”Adam
“I don’t remember her name. She was about 12-13 years old; a very gloomy child. She rarely smiled. Things were always “alright” or “ok” at their very best. She was hard to reach, just kind of going through the motions in our program. Then she spent 10 days at Eagle Village summer camp.
I happened to be there when she arrived back. She came into the cottage and she actually beamed as she showed off her trophies and ribbons. That isn’t that unusual for kids to leave here for Eagle Village in “gloomy” states and return beaming. But I remember this child because the radiant look didn’t fade after a few days. Instead, this child developed a sense of humor, she took an interest in her personal appearance and she continued to work very hard and did well in our program for months after the camp experience. I’m not sure exactly what it was but somehow the camp experience turned this girl around. She really responded to the 10 days of being bombarded with positive reinforcement.”Case Manager at Outside Agency
“This was Cody’s first time away from us or family members in the two years he has been with us. The counselors (Chad especially) took him under his wing and was a tremendous help.
Thank you so much for offering programs/camps for kids like Cody. He had a super time and wants to go back again THIS summer. We told him everyone had to wait their turn and he’d have to wait until next summer.”Parent of Summer Camper
“James has been in many placements over the last five years and none of them had the patience, dedication and caring that you have shown us. You took the time to get to know Jim and crack into the shell he’d built around himself. You helped him find strength and confidence he didn’t realize he had.
I have also learned a lot from the family weekends I have attended. Communication and sharing your feelings and fears and how not to get into power struggles. The knowledge is priceless.
Words can’t express how grateful I am to all the people who helped Jim get home to me. A special thanks to those involved in the decision to give him a second chance. You have all made a difference in our lives.”Parent of Youth in Residential Program
“I would like to thank Eagle Village for giving our daughter the opportunity and privilege to go to camp. Without the scholarship, she would not have been able to attend.
It is unbelievable the growth she has made in two weeks. She came back with more confidence in herself than I thought possible. She found out that she is capable of doing activities that she feared before and learned that you always have to take safety precautions. She went from saying “I can’t” or “I won’t” to “I know I can” or “I’ll try my best.” She is very proud of herself for her accomplishments.
Not only did she learn to believe in herself, but the others also believed in her to try her best and not give up. She learned the real beauty of nature, the sunset, sunrise and how to enjoy nature itself. It takes very special counselors to do that in two short weeks. They are the best.”Parent of Summer Camper
